WSSSRP Jigawa

Jigawa State comprises 27 Local Government Councils, which are divided into 30 State Constituencies and 3 Senatorial Districts. The State Government is organised into Ministries, Extra-ministerial Departments and Parastatals. There is an independent State judiciary as the third arm of Government. Within the states there exist five emirate councils namely; Dutse, Ringim, Kazaure, Gumel and Hadejia.

Economy
The economy of the State is largely characterised by informal sector activities with agriculture as the major economic activity. Over 80% of the population is engaged in subsistence farming and animal husbandry. Trade and commerce are undertaken in agriculture, livestock and other consumer goods. Other informal sector activities include blacksmithing, leatherworks, tailoring services, auto repairs, masonry etc. The Federal Office of Statistics, in 2001, classified the state among those as being relatively high severity and incidence of poverty in the country, with a Gross Per Capital Income of about N35,000 per annum (US$290).

Jigawa State is situated in the North Western part of Nigeria between Latitudes 11.00 N to 13.00 N and Longitudes 8.00 E to 10.15 E. Kano and Katsina States border Jigawa to the West, Bauchi State to the East and Yobe State to the Northeast. To the North, the State shares an international border with the Republic of Niger.

Operation Methodology of State Technical Units
The Technical Assistance to the STUs in each of the focal states includes a wide range of  tasks as the preparation of workshops, different measures in terms of capacity building, training, institutional development, surveys, inventories and data processing as well as hydrological, engineering, environment, policy development and review studies. The services cover:
