Improved water governance at the State and Local Government Area levels in Anambra State

    • STU held a meeting with CSO grant recipients on 20th January to discuss progress, challenges and the way forward. 5# CSO grant beneficiary organisations were in attendance. STU has made financial commitment to the five CSOs. Progresses recorded so far are as outlined below:
    • Alwayslife CSO has concluded the first stage of procurement process for selection of primary schools in Agulu (contract Location) to benefit from VIP Sanitation facilities construction.
    • Abanttu for development has concluded advocacy and sensitization visits in eight small towns. The organization is presently implementing a NEEDS assessment survey in the sensitized communities.
    • Bread of life has concluded the design of a weekly radio programme that will be aired in two local radio stations over a period of 13 weeks. The programme shall enlighten the state on ongoing or planned activities & government policies in the water and sanitation sector.
    • Women Action Committee has concluded the design and development of IEC materials. Plan for the 2nd round sensitization visit to traditional rulers has equally been concluded.
    • Centre for Civic Education and development is implementing a NEEDS assessment survey in benefitting community of Nzam, Anambra west LGA.
    • STU carried out its second phase of CSO & CBO capacity building workshop from 27th-29th January at Parktonan Hotel Awka. Key thematic areas discussed include: proposal writing, sanitation and hygiene promotion and financial management of donor funded projects.
    • STU organised a one day (13th Jan) meeting with WCAs of the ten project communities to review progresses and to redefine programme objectives.
