About WSSSRP

WSSSRP will be implemented at Federal level and in six focal states. In line with the Financial Agreement, a total budget of Euro 119.63 million for WSSSRP will be provided as follows:

UNICEF
Euro 1.2 million

However, there is no pre-allocation of funds between the six states as more resources will be directed to those states which demostrate commitment to improve overall governance and introduce reforms in order to deliver services and reduce poverty.

OBJECTIVES

  • The overall objective is to contribute to poverty eradication, sustainable development, and to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

  • The purpose of WSSSRP is to increase access to safe, adequate, and sustainable water and sanitation services in the six EC focal states.

FOCUS AREAS OF WSSSRP

  • Support to finalise sector policies and develop strategies for implementation
  • Support to review water legislation and draft a new water law
  • Support for restructuring of water sector institutions at all levels
  • Support for development of a sectoral medium-term expenditure framework that reflects the sector strategy 
  • Establish national monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Support Government-led donor coordination for dialogue at the sectoral level
  • Support FMWR in establishing annual sector reviews of the water sector.
